Nintendo offering Switch bundle without a dock in Japan

Nintendo’s made it clear they want the Switch to go from one per household to one per person and now they’ve started their first attempt at this.

For sale on their Japanese store, you can now buy a Nintendo Switch without the dock. The page suggests you might want one without a dock (and to use your families existing dock) because the one Switch in your house is being used by someone else or you want to play multiplayer with a brother.

The difference in price is 5000Yen ($60AU) which isn’t that much cheaper, but the Switch itself is already cheaper in Japan than here. In the new SKU, you’ll get a Switch, two Joy-Con and Joy-Con straps. No dock or AC adapter is included, they’re encouraging people and families to share the dock.

Would you buy a Switch without a dock and AC adapter to have another one in the house? Let us know in the comments.

I think this itself isn’t really that bad an idea. I can imagine a situation where some households may want a second switch and don’t require paying for an extra dock.
That being said, I know a lot of people who are still perplexed that Nintendo would ever sell a product without charging capability. If this sort of idea game to the west, it would not help that. It’s true that people have the power to just pick up a charger separate, or buy an SKU with it included- but most people appreciate their purchasing process to be as simple as possible. People don’t want to have to think about whether or not they have everything needed to use their product after -buying- the product.
Historically, Nintendo are terrible at this. And this new offering seems about in line with that.
