Opera elaborates on browser for Nintendo DS

In search of further clarification on the features of the Nintendo/Opera Browser forum member Nicholas took the initiative today and emailed Opera about what the NDS version will contain and got the following response.

Hi Nicholas,
Opera for DS will support Java, but not PDF or Flash. It has not been planned to support video, files, music, etc… However, Opera on the DS will have nearly the same level of standards support as Opera 8.5 for desktop, in terms of site access, page rendering, and ability to play Web-based games. Opera also offer zoom, fit-to-width and bookmarks – as in the desktop version. A new feature for the NDS is that you can handwrite the URL, rather than just type it in…This is made possible due to the touch screen and stylus.

PDF support was obviously not on the cards because as with any browser PDF’s require Adobe, the lack of Flash support shouldn’t hurt the browser too much but it is good to see that Java, Bookmarks, Fit-to-Width, Zoom and Handwriting support included.
