Nintendo’s Creators Program for YouTube launches in beta

Ever created a YouTube video featuring content from a Nintendo game only to be slapped with a copyright strike and disabling of monetization? Well we have and it’s a real pain in the butt.

But now, butt relief is in sight with Nintendo’s Creators Program program launching in beta form today. This new program allows you to register your YouTube channel or videos on YouTube that contain Nintendo games and earn up to 70% of the ad revenue from it. This is of course a big increase on the 0% you would have got before, but still not perfect.

Registering your whole channel seems to be problematic as you can only register videos for the program that are on the list of allowed games. Recent titles like Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U are not on there nor is Captain Toad. You earn 10% less for just registering videos, hopefully the list is updated soon.

You of course need a Google account to sign up and a PayPal account for the money to go into. At the moment it appears registration is only for the US and Japan but we signed up anyway to test it out.

Do you create Nintendo focused videos, is this something you would use?
