The PAX Australia 2018 Nintendo Cosplay Report

It’s hard to believe but PAX Aus turned six over the weekend! And just like every year, Nintendo fans from the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond visited the country’s biggest and best gaming expo to celebrate. I was lucky enough to make it down for every day of the event to once again meet and photograph all the out-of-this-world cosplayers that make PAX feel like home.

For the sixth year in a row, I happily had the pleasure of meeting up with Josh (aka Joshdachu) for our annual Luigi photoshoot! Every year in my report I’ve mentioned that I hope to see him again the following year, and so far, we’re 6 for 6. Josh, if you’re reading this – let’s make it 7 in 2019.

2018 is certainly the year of Bowsette. For the first time at PAX, countless amazing cosplayers showed up as a fan-made character. After appearing in an online comic strip a little over a month ago, Bowsette has taken the world – and now PAX Aus – by storm!

And she wasn’t always alone! Here’s Bowsette with her trusty follower, Shy Guy!

There were countless Pokémon cosplayers at PAX again this year but unfortunately, I was too slow to catch ‘em all. I did, however, have the pleasure of meeting the great Professor Rowan and his starter Pokémon Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup. In case you’re interested, I always choose the fire Pokémon. You’ll be glad to know that this determined cosplayer is already thinking about the next evolution of his Professor Rowan cosplay. I look forward to seeing version 2.0 next year!

Of course, there’s always lovable Link cosplayers that will take your breath (of the wild) away!

What about the Bros.? Of course, they were in attendance, along with many of the heroes and villains from some of Nintendo’s most loved games, such as Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Bowser and Waluigi!

Mario himself was even in attendance, happily dancing and taking photos with all of his fans. He loved posing for the camera!

All in all, it was another stellar year at PAX Aus, with the biggest booth Nintendo have ever built and a huge number of brilliant cosplayers showing their love for all of our favourite Nintendo characters. Until next year, it’s time for me to waddle off and get some sleep…
