Just like the sun rises every day, Japan is, of course, getting a Super Famicom Mini as well.

The Super Famicom Mini will be released in Japan on October 7th for 7980 yen (95AUD) and will have a couple of games different to the version sold in the rest of the world.

Here’s the lineup, the different ones are in bold;

  • Super Mario World
  • F-ZERO
  • The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Super Soccer
  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Secret of Mana
  • Mega Man X
  • Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
  • Super Metroid
  • Final Fantasy VI
  • Super Street Fighter II
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • Panel de Pon
  • Super Mario RPG
  • Kirby Super Star

The Japanese miss out on Earthbound, Super Castlevania IV, Super Punch-Out, Kirby’s Dream Course from the Mini SNES.

In addition to the awesome box art for the system itself, Nintendo has also released a new box art for Star Fox 2. It never got one in the first place, so it’s good 22 years, it does.

And the rest of the artwork is just as nice.

What is the original name of “The Secret Of Mana” in Japanese? I notice it has a 2 in the title….

I know that the whole mystical tree and character lineup is a long-used one, but something in the back of my mind is saying it was a sequel to something the West never got.

It’s Seiken Densetsu 2. The first one was on Game Boy, released in US as “Final Fantasy Adventure” (and “Mystic Quest” in Europe).
