Both studios to go in major studio narrowing of focus

Sad news today with THQ announcing not only the closure of de Blob developers Blue Tongue in Melbourne but also the closure of THQ Brisbane and a team in Arizona in the US. THQ is cutting about 200 staff in total in what it calls a ’narrowing’ of its focus to create ’high-quality owned IP’. In other words, THQ aren’t going to be making licensed and kids as much any more and don’t need the staff.

President and CEO of THQ, Brian Farrell is quoted in saying that "By right-sizing our internal development capacities for our console portfolio, our five internal studios are focused on delivering high-quality games with talented teams driving the execution of those titles to market. As we have outlined in our business strategies, we are making shifts to reduce movie-based and licensed kids’ video games in our portfolio, which underscores our strategy to move away from games that will not generate strong profits in the future."

THQ will now solely focus on big name titles such as Saints Row, Warhammer, Darksiders and also be looking into Mobile and Social games.

Auran, Pandemic, Krome and now Blue Tongue and THQ Brisbane. How many more are we to lose?
