Nintendo Australia Giving Away Free 3DS Game with Original 3DS Purchase

We’ve seen a number of ‘free game’ promotions around the world with the Nintendo 3DS, now Australia gets one. However, it’s a little bit different.

From June 20th until the end of July if you buy a Nintendo 3DS console (not an XL) and register it on Club Nintendo you will be able to download one of six games for free.

The free games include Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Luigi’s Mansion 2, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros 2 and nintendogs + cats: Toy Poodle & New Friends.

While other promotions around the world rewarded people who already have a Nintendo 3DS (XL or otherwise) this one rewards new 3DS owners.

For full details on how it works check out Nintendo Australia’s website.

Does this mean that all the people who have bought a 3DS in the past are eligible for this promotion?

    • June 8, 2013 at 8:01 am

Nope. Only new 3DS (Not XL) purchases after June 20. The deal requires you to send in a scan of the receipt.

What a crappy deal. Europe and the US 3ds fans get free games with the get one free deal and Australian fans get nothing. Only people who buy the old 3DS model new get a game. I guess they’re trying to clear their old 3DS stock.

It is a bit of a joke…. the offer the UK got was great! buy 3 games get one free, and that also included games you had bought before the offer started. There is also a pretty good MH3 deal going too.

I suppose the purpose of the deal is to get new people on board. I guess it works well in that regard.

But to me it also signifies them getting ready to drop the price of the console and get rid of the old vanilla 3DS stock. That’s my crazy theory though 😛

I was getting mad reading this because I only bought my 3DS XL a month ago. I’m not mad anymore because XLs aren’t even included in the offer.

I don’t understand the logic of Nintendo.

On the one hand they are saying we are a prosperous country and we need to be price gouged on games and consoles.

On the other hand they are saying not enough people are buying the cheapest 3DS and they will throw in a free game.

My advice. Don’t bother as the 3DS XL is a better long term gaming investment and you won’t go blind as quickly.

I’m lacking the understanding of the logic in your argument,,,

If people are only buying the more expensive version wouldn’t it justify their prosperous country argument?

    Another thing too.

The price difference between the new 3DS and 3DS XL is not so different, so its really a matter of utility over which one you really want.

The Japaneses charts show the XL consistently outselling the regular ( and I don’t know if that is because of the installed game bundles coming with the XL console packs ).

In Australia there are many 3DS’s selling at cash converters for around $120 used. For the money saved you could buy two decent games. I have bought two excellent condition used 3DS consoles, and even passed on a Legend of Zelda model.

For the $350 price I paid for the ambassador model (without the free games on release), I could buy three used 3DS now. So please excuse my sarcasm.
