Collectable Badge Center launches in Japan, pin badges, change your 3DS Home Screen menu icons

Nintendo is taking the customization of your Nintendo 3DS home menu one step further today with the launch of the Collectable Badge Center in Japan.

This new application allows you to add Nintendo themed badges (or pins) to your home menu as well as change the default applications that are included on the 3DS icons.

The badges or pins slot into what would be software spots on the home menu. You can then use Mario, Goomba, Bricks or ‘? Blocks’ to recreate scenes from games depending on what size you have the icons set as. The other part is unlocking different icons for the default application such as StreetPass (which replaces Mii characters with Mario ones), the camera and others. There’s a KK Slider Nintendo 3DS sound icon!

There appears to be different sets of icons available for different days or a rotating schedule at least. Retro Mario sprites, new Mario and Mario Kart artwork and Animal Crossing characters and even sprite representation of consoles and controllers are up for grabs.

So how do you get them? Well you can either pay to have a go via micro-transactions (5 plays for 99yen or $1) or there are challenges in the app to do daily for more chances to play the skill tester (crane game, UFO game). Hooking games is easy, all you have to do is hit A to start and stop the crane as it moves left.

Luckily Nintendaan has got the app already from the Japanese eShop and put together this video showing it off. We’re sure people are going to come up with some crazy looking home menus.

We will let you know if it is coming out way!
