Nintendo Australia’s revenue is down, suffers net loss

Nintendo Australia, like the rest of the Nintendo worldwide hasn’t had a good year, now we know by how much.

According to a report on Delimiter, Nintendo Australia made $127.37 million in revenue here in Australia for the last 12 months to the 31st of March this year. That’s down 36.3% compared to the year before. To make matters worse Nintendo has made a net loss of $15.1 million over the same time period.

These figures are far from the great times of when the Wii was at its peak, in the year ending March 31st 2011 Nintendo Australia put away $339.7 million in revenue.

Nintendo Australia have also cut its marketing budget down by $10 million dollars to $18.4 million for year to March 31st. That’s in a year with a new console launch as well. With the lack of games on the Wii U after launch it probably wasn’t worth advertising the Wii U as much, the Nintendo 3DS however has continued to receive steady promotion.

The report also says there are now at least 80 people working for the company. This figure is down from previous years but not by much considering the size of the company.

Not good figures here for Nintendo Australia, however there’s not much they can do with the Wii U the way it is.

Makes sense, Nintendo AU is more forgotten then Nintendo EU.

I bet only the die hard Ninty fans know of the Wii U in Australia.

I’m not surprised, more and more people are importing their games these days

Call me crazy but I get the feeling that next years results will be a fair bit better. Console transition is always hard and this is the hardest yet, it can only get better from here.

I disagree. These figures are from year ending 31st March 2013. $15.1 million net loss. How will things be better when there have been minimal games for WiiU released since 1st April…? Shelf-moving 3rd party arrive later this year… there’s a big gap of revenue opportunities… Things will start getting better if they do a SEGA now….

The last quarter as we know from Nintendo’s overall financials was nothing less than a disaster. Nintendo has been in its shell saving money hopefull for later this year.

Importing doesn’t have much to do with the losses here. We might do it here in the core fanbase, but outside – it doesn’t even raise an eyelid.

Not surprised. Going that most third party shafted the WiiU and the next gen consoles are a stones throw away, i can see how sales have gone down, also, did i mention that Nintendo AU has basically NO support, and don’t get me started on the “stars” catalog, all rejected items from the states and EU. Pathetic. Time to step up Nintendo or be left behind, kinda like what happened to Sega (R.I.P Sega)
