Splatoon will splatter its way to Wii U in May

During tonight’s Nintendo direct new information on Splatoon has been revealed. Along with the 4 vs. 4 online and single player modes, the Plaza has also been announced.

The Plaza is where you start when you turn on the game. Like an overworld hub you will find other people’s Inklings from the miiverse. Inklings are the characters that you play as in-game and get to customise at the various shops around the Plaza.

The large building in the middle of the Plaza is the place you go to verse other players from across the globe. Nothing has been mentioned about how the matchmaking will work as of yet.

Customisable options include weapon sets, hats, clothing and shoes each with a dedicated shop for you to spend the hard earned money you get from playing and winning matches.

Each weapon set contains three types of weapons. The main weapon, which is the one you use in battle to paint the ground with ink and attack enemies. The secondary weapon is used to provide support, allowing you to keep enemies away and block paths. The special weapon uses a powerful attack, which charges the more you cover the ground with ink.

Your taste in clothing also has an effect on your characters stats, such as defence and speed. So finding just the right balance between your items might just give you an edge over the competition.
