Nintendo exits the Brazilian gaming market

If you’ve ever thought we pay to much to game here in Australia think of the poor Nintendo fans in Brazil. Nintendo has officially announced that it is leaving the market indefinitely.

This month will see the distribution of games and systems stop and Nintendo won’t be officially represented in Brazil. The problem is that Brazil places heavy taxes on many luxury goods and those include video game consoles. This is to try and get video game companies to setup local manufacturing in the country which is extremely expensive. Nintendo loses either way and so do the fans.

The eShop didn’t bring respite to Brazilian fans either as their store was just as expensive as buying locally and not every one is in the position to have a US account (or credit card).

With the high costs of selling in the country and the losses it brings to Nintendo it’s easier for the company to just pull out and stop selling.
