Nintendo of America has announced that the Nintendo Switch has become the fastest selling video game system of all time in America – ever.

This includes even the Wii, Nintendo says that 4.8 million Switch units were sold between March 3rd and December 31st compared to 4 million Wii units during the same timeframe.

“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”

Nintendo of America also confirmed that over 60% of Switch owners have Super Mario Odyssey, 55% have Breath of the Wild, 50% own Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and 20% have Splatoon 2. In just a couple of months, Odyssey has outsold them all.

The press release also mentions continued publisher support from EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom, SEGA, Take 2 and Bethesda, as well as “quality content from indie developers”.

Finally some good news in 2018.

Can someone please contact the 45% that don’t have breath of the wild to ensure they have a pulse. If the pulse is working, check the brain.

Maybe they bought it on Wii U? Hopefully this leads to a fruitful 2018 where the third parties fill in the gaps for the Switch. The next Call of Duty should be a given surely…
