New Wii U controller shots leaked, updated design and analogue sticks

Well something had to leak out before E3, guess this might be it. A developer, allegedly a QA tester from Traveller’s Tales Games posted the images long enough for the internet to see them before their Twitter account was deleted.

The changes in the controller are numourous with the main addition being the dual analogue sticks which now adorn the front of the controller. No more slider pads, full clickable analogue sticks. Hooray.

More things of note include a ‘square’ on the face of the controller under the D-Pad which may be the Near Field Contact (NFC) point on the controller.

The start and select buttons have moved to the right of the screen and there is now also a square button on the right of the battery light with no marking. The two cables at the top appear to be a Nintendo DSi/3DS charger cable and the one on the right is the developers lead to the dev unit.

The Wii U logo is also on the front face of the controller now and is all grey.

So new analogue sticks? Good? What about that position of them above the face buttons?

Look at you. You sexy beast.

The 'old' design.

Interesting, going back to sticks rather than a circle pad. They don’t seem to be as tall as your typical analog stick though so the fine control will be a little less than a stick on an Xbox for example.
    An improvement I think.

Slide pads would have been a big mistake. This was kind of a no brainer. I would still prefer the grip on Gamecube’s left thumbstick than Wii’s nun chuck but I do feel the nunckuck was more responsive. I’d say it was more responsive than 360’s and less that PS3. The grips on Playstation 3’s thumbsticks is perfect. If ain’t broke don’t fix it. I would happily play PS4 with the same controller. Now I’m rambling. WiiU all they way!

Don’t worry you can bet that $ony will be copying from Nintendo for their Next PS (I’m prepared to bet big that it won’t be called “PS4” as the Asian unlucky number is 4)

Anybody know what the random square buttons(?) are?

I was looking forward to the the circle slide pads but if they weren’t clickable then that would have been not a wise choice. Still don’t know if these ones are yet either. Glad to see the 8 way octagon shape around the sticks gone like on the Wii nunchuck.

Looks like an interesting control setup. Can’t wait to get one in my hands.
