New Mario Kart 8 trailer reveals babies, quad bikes, and UFOs

During last night’s Nintendo Direct a new Mario Kart 8 trailer was revealed and in it some new information about the line up for the game. The ‘baby’ Nintendo characters are back, including Baby Mario, Luigi and Peach (among others). They haven’t been in the game since Mario Kart: Double Dash on the GameCube.

Also revealed were some new tracks but also the revelation that bikes are back in the game as well. Joining bikes though are UFOs and even four-wheel ATV buggies. That’s sure to be controversial.

The game is still on track for a ‘Spring 2014’ release date, which in Australia is our Autumn, so some time before the end of May.

Nintendo of America tweeted that Rosalina will be in Smash and Mario Kart 8.

I don’t recall that being mentioned in the european stream.

“2014 will see Rosalina in #SmashBros. as well as Mario Kart 8! She’s going to have a busy year… #NintendoDirectNA #MK8”

I’ve been wanting them to bring back double dash since the Gamecube era, alas it looks like that’s never going to happen.

They should at least include the a mode to play as single riders or in double dash, so during the campaign you play the same tracks, but in double dash mode and in Wifi races, you can choose normal or double dash, although given the choice, I don’t think I’d ever choose the normal mode.
