Yooka-Laylee to have several big updates before it hits the Switch

Yooka-Laylee has been out now a couple of weeks on the other consoles and Playtonic already has some big plans to update the game. Those updates as well are going into the Switch version which is currently being worked on ‘with speed’.

Here’s what they plan to change;

Yooka-Laylee has been in the wild for two whole weeks and we’ve been positively overchuffed by the response from fans and backers around the world! We’ve very much enjoyed reading your feedback, lurking on your livestreams and absorbing your lovely comments, so thanks again for the support! It’s been emotional.

Thanks to you lot, some 20 developers remain off the streets, mostly fed and in a stronger position than ever to continue creating colourful, personality-plump adventures!

But first… we’ve got some spit ‘n’ polish to deploy.

In the days since launch – and as we work with speed towards the Nintendo Switch – the dev team has been frogmarched back down into the development mines to uncover our next big game update, which will add significant improvements and introduce some of the most requested features.

That means stuff like the optional ability to skip dialogue faster, bypass cutscenes or reduce those pesky gibberish voices, which should please the speedrunners among us. We’ll also be adding a sprinkling of design polish throughout the adventure and by popular request, changes to how the camera operates.

You can expect a more detailed breakdown of the game update in the coming weeks, as we continue to tinker around with the coding furnace.

So it might be a bummer that the game was cancelled on the Wii U and coming out on the Switch later, but we might end up getting the better game.

    Sounds like it will be a few months, but at least these great features are coming out. It will be an even more highly recommended game by the time it hits the Switch.

    Except it won’t have Trophies or Achievements.

    Seriously, if Nintendo would implement an Achievement system of some sort I would probably be willing to finally consider buying a Switch. But without achievements, I’d feel like I’d be buying a version of a game that lacks some of the features found on the other systems. And no, portability doesn’t excite me in the least. Why would I want to play my Switch in the check-out line at Kohl’s or at work or school? It’d be a hassle to lug that thing around.

    Give me trophies, Nintendo. If you want my money.

      If your favorite thing about games are trophies, I think you have some mixed up priorities on what a game is and what makes it objectively good. Trophies are icing on the cake, the decorations in the house, if you will. You can’t have them without the proper foundation of fun games to enjoy. Switch is gonna have tons of fun and innovative titles. If you want a new 1st person shooter / walking simulator every month and maybe a more innovative experience every once a blue moon, go with your PS4, Xbone, or PC. That’s totally legit and acceptable. But don’t act like Switch brings nothing to the table worth people’s money.
