by Daniel VuckovicJanuary 23, 2008

The wii has now passed another milestone in Japan with five million of the consoles being sold to date. According to Japanese website Famitsu.com, the Wii since its launch on December 2 in 2006 to the 20th of January has sold 5,019,337 units. It was has taken the Wii 60 weeks to reach the 5 million mark beaten by the Nintendo DS which took 56. On the software front, 4 Wii titles have surpassed a million sales. Unsurprisingly, they are Wii Sports, WiiPlay, Wii Fit and Mario Party 8! The next one in the chain is Super Mario Galaxy, which to date has sold 843, 961 copies and will (hopefully) reach a million sales soon.
