Watch Shigeru Miyamoto receive his Prince of Asturias award

It's kind of a big deal.

Shigeru Miyamoto can add another achievement to his belt now by taking home the 2012 Prince of Asturias award for Communications and Humanities. The Spanish awards are held annually and celebrate great achievements in the fields of art, sciences and humanities. To you and me, the layperson its awards for people who do things really well and change the world and propel mankind forward. Serious stuff.

You’ve possibly never heard of the awards before but Spain do. You’ll see in the video below they put on a grand showing for the awards. It’s very regal and even though it’s in Spanish you should least take away how prestigious award this is. This is the first time someone from the video games industry has been awarded the honour (and it has a nice prize too).

Way to go Miyamoto!
