Wand-waving wizard RPG for Wii from Namco-Bandai revealed
Patent documentation has been uncovered for a glyph-tracing, magic-themed RPG game from Namco-Bandai. The game would have required players to trace out different shapes and patterns on-screen using the Wiis pointer function to cast spells. Players would face off against a range of adversaries, and use a growing repertoire of spells to fend them off- the better the match of the players wand-tracing to the symbol required, the more damage the spell would inflict. Such motion-by-memory spell casting is similar to the PC series Black and White, where moving the mouse to cast shapes worked well to streamline the magic-casting gameplay. A magic-themed RPG would have been well-handled by Namco-Bandai, responsible for RPG classic Baten Kaitos, and the Tales of series. They are also no strangers to implementing innovative controls to conventional games such as Donkey Konga on Gamecube, and Soul Calibur Legends for Wii.
The patent was filed way back in 2007 and revealed in the US last year, but no further details were ever revealed.
