David Lowenstein of the ESA has confirmed recent stories that E3 will be see many changes for next year in beyond. Whilst Lowenstein has labeled it as an “”evolution””, it is clear that E3 will never be the huge event it once was.
The ESA have suggested that the E3 show will be downgraded and it will become a more intimate show for game developers. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the show will now be called ‘E3Expo’, however the location of the show remains the same.
Next Generation, who broke the story just yesterday, are quick to point out that E3 is no more. Despite what ESA have said today, E3 has all out been cancelled. The announcement of the new, smaller Expo is just a smokescreen to save the E3 brand name.
With major publishers pulling out of E3, it was just a matter of time before the ESA had to pull the pin on what was the biggest annual gaming expo. It’s an unfortunate turn of events for what was a great expo but here’s hoping that with one door closing, another will open.
