UK spending big for Wii and DS

In what can only be considered a major push by Nintendo to get the Wii out there to the masses, they have unveiled a massive launch campaign aimed toward every age group and gender. With over 11m in marketing expenses planned from now until next March, 6.5m of that being spent toward the Wii launch, UK TV viewers can expect to see the Wii at least three times and the public can experience a huge sampling promotion across 70 locations.

More details inside The new console push doesn’t put a stop to the DS’ reign over the Western market. Over 6m will be spent promoting the DS between now and December.

“”There will be even more clear water between the DS and any rival handheld console,”” commented Nintendo’s UK sales director Andy Yates.

“”We’re now outselling the competition by two to one. Nobody in retail or publishing should be backing the wrong horse right now.””
