The Original Doom, Doom II and Doom 3 arrive on the Switch today

Update: They’re out now!

Original Story: It’s Quakecon this weekend, and it looks like the cat got out of the bag early. The original Doom, Doom II and Doom 3 will arrive on the Switch sometime today. They’re already loaded on the eShop in the US and the UK but aren’t purchasable just yet.

It’s the original game’s 25th anniversary you see. The first two games include all the expansions and extra levels, have local multiplayer and co-operative play.

Doom 3 includes the Ressurection of Evil and The Lost Missions expansion packs.

You’ll be able to buy Doom here and Doom II here for $7.45, and Doom 3 for $14.95 here when they are available.

Don’t buy this until Bethesda fix this horrid #%{*#%#*

It requires you to be always online (linked to a Bethesda account) and the controls are horrible, forcing the use of two analog sticks (which is ideal for modern FPSes, but completely unintuitive for a game designed to be played with arrow keys on a keyboard).

I absolutely regret blind-buying this. And to think that I was so excited too. 🙁

So… you can play offline but you are still forced to create a Bethesda account to unlock the ability to play offline.

Thanks for the heads-up Silly G, I was just about to grab the first two games, then I saw your post (thankfully!). Absolutely not purchasing now.

The irony is that the single Joy-Con controls are much better (as you can move freely with just the one stick), but you need to press on to it to run, which is unideal and could put a lot of strain on it when simultaneously moving the stick.

There is four-player split-screen for both deathmatch and co-op modes, but the forced dual-analog controls absolutely needs to be patched out. The directional buttons don’t even do anything, which makes it even more frustrating as the game was designed around much simpler controls.

What a disappointing mess, guess I’ll just stick with my GOG versions on PC for now.
