The next big gaming property to get a movie: Asteroids
No, were not kidding. Universal has won a bidding war to create Asteroids The Movie
The 1979 arcade classic Asteroids is the next game to be given a movie deal. Universal Studios has won the rights to pick up the film from three other studios and will get to work on a movie as soon as possible. Matthew Lopez will write the script for the feature adaptation, which will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Matthew Lopez recently worked on the script for Race to Witch Mountain and Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producer for the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

While games with grand stories and characters are usually made into movies, this one is a little different as Asteroids contains no characters or story. According to reports, though, Universal is also working on movies based on the Hasbro games "Battleship" and "Candyland". So we guess they’ll be able make something up.
Asteroids has been on nearly every game system and handheld ever – it was only natural a movie would be made eventually, right?. In any case, it’ll probably turn out to be Assteroids.
