Switch version of Hollow Knight has been delayed into 2018

Good things come to those who wait.

Hollow Knight, made by Aussie devs Team Cherry, was initially planned to launch on Switch soon after the console’s release, after making the Switch (pun intended) from the Wii U. Of course, game development isn’t always so easy.

In a recent Kickstarter backer update, Team Cherry announced that Hollow Knight would not be releasing this year, and instead is scheduled to launch in early 2018. In the update, the team cited technical difficulties as the reason for the delay.

Despite our best efforts we’ve recently made the difficult decision to push HK’s Switch release to early 2018. Why is it taking us longer than we thought to get the port fully polished? Honestly, it’s just that as first-time developers we built the game in some strange, unoptimised ways and to get things running smoothly and consistently we need to sweep back through and rewrite or fix bits and pieces.

The good news is that they are working on more content in the meantime, so when it finally does launch, there’ll be plenty new stuff for Switch players to enjoy. There’s no release date set beyond early 2018, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated if any news comes our way.
