Super Meat Boy (literally) races onto the Switch on January 11

Team Meat announced earlier in the year that Super Meat Boy would be coming to the Switch sometime in 2017. Plans have changed a little bit, but they’ve finally given us a date — and a new reason to be excited.

Today, Team Meat has taken to Twitter to officially announce that Super Meat Boy (the original, not Forever) will be launching on the eShop on the 11th of January 2018, with the odds of a physical release “extremely high” at some point in the future. The indie platforming classic has been on just about every console you could imagine, even the Wii U, so it’s no surprise that it would make it to the Switch eventually too, especially in the lead up to the sequel, Super Meat Boy Forever.

What is a surprise, however, is a new feature called Race Mode, which will be launching on the Switch first when it releases next month. Race Mode is a new two-player competitive game mode that lets you race against a friend in splitscreen, and it looks to support a single Joy-Con per player. Race Mode will eventually come to PC too, but there are no plans for it to reach other platforms — if you want to race your friends, for the moment, it’s Switch or nothing.
