Developers Image & Form are set to bring their ‘hardcore platform mining adventure game’ SteamWorld Dig: A Fistful of Dirt to the Nintendo 3DS in the near future.

Set in a steam-punk western world, you play as a lone mining steambot named Rusty who is tasked with helping the town of Tumbleton. To do this, Rusty must mine the earth to explore a deep underground world, uncovering treasures and challenging monsters. He even uncovers remnants of an ancient long-lost civilization called ‘humans’.

The gameplay is looking suitably challenging to live up to the ‘hardcore’ description, with enemies, hazards and obstacles to overcome deep within the earth.

Image & Form have released several screenshots and videos showing off the challenging gameplay and detailed graphics on offer.

Keep a look out for this one on 3DS, being released in the US in June, and everywhere else in the world (including Australia!) on August 8.
