The pre-E3 news is just beginning with all of the small announcements getting out of the way for the main event. This is one such news story.

Sonic Boom has been its final and different names for both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game. The Wii U game will be known as  Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and the 3DS one is titled Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. While featuring the same new look character the two versions of the game will have a different story and play completely different.

The Wii U version will focus on action adventure and team play with a sprinkling of the speed stages we know and love. The games antagonist is the titular Lyric and is an ancient, snake like villain. The newly announced character Sticks isn’t playable in the Wii U version and the main story supports two player drop-in and drop-out co-operative.

The 3DS version is a platformer and will play similar previous portable titles. In this game Lyric has kidnapped Amy and Sticks takes her place. The game will feature StreetPass collectables and connect up to the Wii U version as well.

Sonic Boom was controversial when it was announced for the widely different look it gave Sonic and his friends, now they’re slowing down the game as well. Could go either way.

The game will be playable at next week’s E3, be sure to look out for impressions of it on Vooks.
