Red Steel Sequel in the Works

by Dale NevilleNovember 28, 2006

Ubisoft’s exclusive Wii shooter where players tackle the Japanese Mafia has been successful enough for a brand new game to be announced for the Wii. Despite receiving harsh critique from some reviewers, Red Steel has been quite a commercial success for Ubisoft with the title of the second best selling Wii game from the American launch behind The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Ubisoft has posted a job opeing on their France website, recruiting for a Senior Game Designer who will take part in the continuation of the Red Steel Project. To put an interesting twist on this new information, “”RPG experience”” is requested in the job description, a fact which suggests that we’ll be seeing some RPG elements being integrated into the Red Steel Sequel, although to what extent that will be is at the moment unknown.

A new trademark was also recently created by Ubisoft in the United States for the title of Fighting Steel. Whether or not this will be the new name of the Red Steel Sequel is anyone’s guess, but it’s nothing but good news for Wii owners, as we’ll get to see what Ubisoft can really do with an original Wii game given more time to perfect it. Meanwhile those of us down under can look forward to the first instalment released on December 7 for the Australian Wii launch.

Stay tuned to Vooks more more news on Red Steel and its upcoming sequel.
