Red Steel 2 drips with Wild West style, requires MotionPlus

by Josh MouldsApril 29, 2009

Ubisofts sequel to their Wii launch title Red Steel looks to be making a journey from east to west, adopting a gritty western style instead of the Asiatic stylisation of the original.

The game graces the cover of next months Nintendo Power magazine, featuring what may be the sequel’s shady protagonist wielding a cowboy-style pistol as well as a katana. The old-west art style will be complemented by cel-shaded visuals (running at a smooth 60 fps) in the whole-new setting of Caldera, which has been described as mixture of Tokyo and Reno. Gore will be kept to a minimum, and the cartoony style will be marketed towards younger audiences. The game was assumed to take advantage of MotionPlus- which has now been confirmed as being required to play the game- possibly offering the most realistic virtual sword play ever offered in a video game. Ubisoft promised to step up their game in the wake of the response to the first Red Steel, so here’s hoping the sequel delivers where the original aimed but unfortunately missed.

What do you think of the new Red Steel style? Cel-Shading, T Level Gore? Let us know in the comments!
