Okami creators team with Sega on new projects
Platinum Games, the development team behind Viewtiful Joe 2 on the Gamecube and fan favourite Okami, have recently revealed the projects they are working on, two of the three are on Nintendo consoles. Platinum Games have entered into a contract with SEGA to publish three titles, of which we probably won’t see until 2009. More Inside
The first title, released for the Nintendo Wii, is called Mad World. It features an interesting artistic direction, looking very similar to Frank Miller’s famous Sin City franchise. Scheduled for release in early 2009, and helmed by Atsushi Inaba (who also worked on Viewtiful Joe 2, Okami and God Hand), Mad World features a completely black and white world, and promises to be hyper violent but in a “”comical”” way. The only colour seen on screen is the colour of blood, adding to the stylisation of the title. Several weapons can be utilised too, with chainsaws and street signs being revealed so far.
The game will also offer sport-like commentary, possibly intended to soften the context of the game in order to get it past ratings. Inaba promises it will fill the core gamers needs that is “”currently missing”” on the Wii. Director of the title, Shigenori Nishikawa, announced his philosophy behind the game: –
“”We felt that the Wii Marketplace had too many of the same type of games – there was something missing in the line-up,”” stated Nishikawa. “”That’s why we created such a game as Mad World.””
An interesting quote, to say the least.
The second title promises to be “”one of the most complex RPGs available on the Nintendo DS yet””, and is a sci-fi RPG, developed exclusively for the Nintendo DS. According to Platinum Games, Infinite Line promises to allow players to control, build and customise over 150 space ships, and will allegedly push the hardware to it’s absolute limit.
