Nintendo Wii: 50 million served

by Josh MouldsMarch 25, 2009

The Nintendo Wii is set to pass a milestone of 50 million global units sold by the end of this month. The projection comes from reputable Japanese financial news outlet Nikkei.net. The Wii was released two years and four months ago in a semi-simultaneous worldwide launch. For comparison, the Wii has reached this landmark eight months faster than Sonys Playstation 2. More inside If correct, this figure puts total Wii sales just ahead of the SNES at 49 million, but the ultra-successful modern console has yet to surpass the all-time granddaddy of home consoles- the NES which sits proud at 62 million global sales- to claim the title of most successful Nintendo home console.
