Nintendo will spend $200 Million US dollars marketing the Wii over the next 12 months with TV ads kicking off tomorrow ahead of the US launch on November 19th.

Speaking to Bloomberg, George Harrison Nintendo of Americas senior VP for marketing says that the advertising campaign is their most expensive yet, costing about 20% then the marketing plan for the GameCube back in 2001.

Reflecting on the GameCube, Harrison also said that the GameCube didn’t meet our [Nintendos] expectations and that “”There were lessons in there for us that led us to the Wii. The first lesson was that just trying to be like the others in the marketplace wasn’t the answer.””

About 80% of advertising budget will be used to target adults in an attempt to expand the market beyond Nintendos normal target audience, kids and teens.
