Nintendo has published a brand new ‘Iwata Asks’ feature, this time focusing on the Nintendo 3DS XL which is out soon in Japan and Europe but still a month away here in Australia.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has spoken about the 3DS XL’s bigger screen on both how it’ll look with bigger pixels and its new anti-glare property.

“Many customers appear to be worried, asking questions like ‘If the screen is bigger, won’t the dots stand out?  ‘Will the screen get blurry?’,” Iwata said.

But according to Takashi Murakami, from Nintendo’s Mechanical Design Group. “I don’t think anyone will be able to sense anything awkward.” He does admit though that “Apparently I have incredible eyesight, so if you look at it with eyes like mine, you can tell. (laughs),”

Nintendo’s done bigger pixels before of course with the Nintendo DSi and Iwata says that this time around the “The dots are indeed smaller than on the Nintendo DSi XL system”.  The big change though with the 3DS XL is the 3D effect and most reports have stated that the 3D effect is pretty much the same even with the bigger screen and pixels if not a little better.

Transparent 3DS XL. Not for you though.

The system’s screen should also fight off that pesky glare better than the Nintendo 3DS.  “Anti-reflection is something that we’ve been working on for quite some time now,”says Murakami. “On a LCD screen there are basically three reflective layers, which all of them reflects and cause glare. So this time, we specially treated all the layers. Reflectivity on the Nintendo 3DS was about 12 per cent, but we decreased that to about three per cent.” Hopefully this new technology might be incorporated into the 3DS at some point, it’s shiny as.

You can read through the rest of the Iwata Asks, in English thankfully here.

The Nintendo 3DS XL is out this week in Japan and Europe, Aussies will have to wait until August 23rd to get their hands on one.
