That’s a lot of money for a game not even out yet.

Nintendo must have a lot of faith in Niantic, the developers of Ingress and soon Pokemon Go which is coming to smartphones in 2016. They, along with The Pokemon Company and Google have invested a combined $30 million into the company, $20 million of which they get now.

The money is going to be used for Pokemon Go, to support Ingress and for future games beyond that.

President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara says “Pokémon’s strategic investment in Niantic paves the way for a social mobile experience the world has never seen before. The Pokémon Company is committed to partnering with companies like Niantic that share the same spirit of community and innovation.”

This is a huge investment for Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, the hype for Pokemon Go is real – with this much money behind it, it should be really good right?
