Nintendo DS games coming to Virtual Console …on Wii U

During Nintendo’s investor briefing today Satoru Iwata detailed four steps they would take to get the Wii U more exposure and hopefully more sales (more on that soon). The fourth point on that list was bringing Nintendo DS games to the Wii U Virtual Console.

Yes, Nintendo DS games on the Wii U Virtual Console.

Iwata told investors and the media that they had recently overcome technical hurdles that had been stopping them from bringing the  titles to Virtual Console. Nintendo will draw on the rich library of the Nintendo DS  and boost the Virtual Console library. Brain Training was shown on a slide at the event being played solely on the Wii U GamePad. That game plays in ‘portrait’ or ‘book’ mode however.

It is possible they’ll be coming to the Nintendo 3DS as well, which would make sense… But only the Wii U GamePad was mentioned.

The 3DS can already play DS games, there is no need for VC DS games on it looool

Nintendo are increasingly making illogical steps! Yes I think that Ds games should be playable on the wii u, but no through downloads. Instead, they should release a hardware add on (not unlike the gameboy player) allow people to play both their Ds and 3DS games on the big screen.

More importantly though, unified eshop!! Seriously, we should not have to pay twice for the same game! They need to set up an account and device system similar to Apple! I guarantee they’d instantly increase sales from such a move.

This is cool, however it would be better if games which can not be put into a current system (3ds) and be played, where up on the virtual console, eg. Nintendo 64 and Gamecube. It is baffling to me that for exmaple a game like Zelda OOT is not on there at the moment.

As if! I don’t believe a word of it from Nintendo. More than a year ago they also promised GBA games on the Wii U virtual console. Still waiting.
