Nintendo and Harvey Norman mending fences?

by Daniel VuckovicSeptember 18, 2006

With the PS3 delayed and the Xbox 360 solidifying its position on the Aussie market, the Wii is launching this Christmas and its going to make a splash and retailers are beginning to open their eyes.

Australian IT has a very revealing article about the Wii this Xmas and how Harvey Norman and Nintendo are in talks to get Wii back into their stores. It seems like there is some fence mending going on.

The Australian IT article reveals that Nintendo Australia and Harvey Norman are currently negotiating trading terms which means Nintendo games and hardware should soon be making there way back into Harvey Norman stores. If you havent been in a Harvey Norman store in the last 3 years you may have noticed that some stores no longer stock Nintendo products. While we dont know what happened, its assumed that the lack of interest in the GameCube contributed to Harvey Norman pulling all Nintendo stock from their stores.

However with the high interest in Wii coupled with the PS3 delay, it seems Harvey Norman are now looking at stocking Wii as it appeals to a different age group to the Xbox 360. However as Harvey Norman games product and marketing manager Jason Williams incorrectly points out Wii will appeal to the younger age group.

While it might appeal to the younger age group it shouldnt simply be labelled as a kids machine as its a machine for everyone. Despite this it is great to see Harvey Norman and Nintendo trying to get back to square one. Lets just hope this run of good luck keeps on continuing and things might actually begin to look up and improve in the retail world for Nintendo in Australia. Not only is it better for Nintendo its better for us gamers with more competition it equals cheaper games and better availability of stock
