Next Mario game may wait for new Nintendo hardware – Miyamoto

Speculation begins.

This week Shigeru Miyamoto has been on tour around America featuring on all sorts of Youtube channels and taking press interviews.

Speaking to the Associated Press, the creator of Mario has spoken about many issues including what’s next for Mario. Miyamoto-san was asked after a busy year with Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World the year before is Mario taking the next year off?

Miyamoto responded “Since we first created Mario, people have compared him to Mickey Mouse. I’ve always said Mickey Mouse evolved with each evolution in animation. You saw Mickey Mouse each step of the way. From early on, I wanted Mario to be that character in the digital world, so that with each digital evolution, he was there to usher in the next era.”

So what’s the next evolution then? ” I think that maybe when we release the next hardware system, you can look forward to seeing Mario take on a new role or in a new game.”

We’ve seen a lot of Mario in recent years and while Nintendo likely isn’t going to just stop releasing Mario games the next ‘big’ Mario game sounds like it’ll be on new hardware. Whenever that ends up being.
