More Wii details for Call of Duty: World at War

by Daniel ParkerAugust 26, 2008

Details have surfaced concerning the Wii version of Call of Duty: World at War. Once again, the camera has been programmed to help you out. For example, if you climb a hill, the camera will help to keep your focus straight ahead. The game will use Nintendo WFC and features the same online multiplayer maps, modes and vehicles as its P and 360 counterparts. More inside There will be dedicated maps for vehicles and at least 8 players. Sadly online co-op was re-confirmed to be missing, but “”Squad Mate Mode”” 2 player mode will add another crosshair to the screen, allowing a second player to help shoot.

The same engine as the PC, PS3 and 360 is being used, though since the Wii has no hardware shaders they have to use a diffuse and alpha pass on the textures. In simpler terms, the Wii doesn’t have the same features as the other consoles so they have to pull some tricks to get it to look as good. Which means they are at least trying, unlike some other third party developers.

Most of the particle and explosion effects have been retained, however, and all the while keeps a good framerate. The producer boasts that this means they are able to achieve a high level of graphical quality on the Wii. It was also stated that Our controls are more customizable than any Wii FPS shooter has ever been. Our default control sensitivity has a dead zone and look sensitivity that is very flexible and intuitive, and designed so that anyone can pick up the control and have an enjoyable game experience. Beyond that, we offer customization of the dead zone size and sensitivity, the turning speed, and adjusting the speed of acceleration of the crosshairs. According to Activision the game is set for a Aussie release in “”Spring””, a closer date will of course be clear soon enough.
