Miyamoto talks Minecraft on Wii U and 3DS

Nothing concrete, yet.

It’s a pure crime that Minecraft hasn’t made its way to either the Nintendo 3DS or Wii U. The dual screen, touch screen equipped consoles would be perfect to play the game on – not to mention the opportunities Miiverse could open up for the game.

So why is the game on everything but Nintendo consoles? Kotaku asked this of Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinya Takahashi during E3.

“We’ve always thought internally that using the [Wii U] GamePad would probably make for a Minecraft that’s very easy to play. And, of course, if we were to do something with Minecraft on the 3DS, similarly we would probably do it where it would be easier to play and could probably reach a lot of kids.” Takahashi told Kotaku.

“What’s interesting is that, in Japan, Minecraft is not popular in the way it is in the U.S. and Europe, so we’ve also thought that, if we were able to do a partnership like that, it might bring opportunity to help make Minecraft more popular in Japan.”

Miyamoto himself hasn’t played the game, but has heard of it and had this to say about it. “Maybe we’re meeting with them! Who knows?”. Them of course being Swedish developers of the game Mojang.

Minecraft is ever so popular with children (and everyone) these days, it’s the in thing and the Wii and 3DS not having the game is a huge loss. If Nintendo can lead the Minecraft charge into Japan that’s great but getting it onto their platforms in the west would also be helpful.
