Miiverse and Nintendo IDs added in 3DS Firmware Update

Nintendo 3DS firmware update version 7.0.0-13 is now available, bringing new features like Nintendo Network IDs and Miiverse to the 3DS.

Once updated, 3DS users can create a Nintendo Network ID, or link one they’ve already made on a Wii U console.

Alongside this Network ID, players can now access and post to the Miiverse from their 3DS systems.

Other less obvious improvements include notifications when games have updates available, a change to the method of activating the 3DS camera and the removal of the 5 System Transfer limit which might bring relief to people who’ve come close to the old limit.

You now also have to hit both L and R buttons to activate the camera, we know that happens a lot!

The regular ‘system stability’ improvements have also been made.

We are currently testing how this firmware update affects region switching to access eShops from other countries, please stay tuned.

Let us know because I have an American 3DS and Australian Wii U and I suspect that bad things will happen if I try and put my Australian account on the American 3DS, or perhaps it just won’t work. Bloody Nintendo.

This is my situation too. Would love some clarification before I run the update just in case.

Not thrilled about the fact that you can no longer have multiple systems connected to Club Nintendo, from what I gather. That is apparently being managed by the Nintendo Network ID. Not real great for two adults with one Wii U (two accounts, where mine is like some lesser crappy version with no shopping permissions), and two 3DS. So any eShop purchases I make on my 3DS will not pour Club Nintendo points into the shared account I’ve been using with my partner for years. Hmpf.

The instructions in the new Network ID settings suggest you will lose any currency you have in other regions. Pretty crappy!
