Update: Nintendo Australia has confirmed that Metroid: Samus Returns will go on sale in Australia on September 16th. The Metroid and Samus amiibo will be sold separately. The press release makes no mention of the special edition announced for America, we’re confirming with Nintendo that we’re not getting it.

Original Story: It’s not every day a new Metroid game gets announced, it’s not every decade that two get announced.

Metroid: Samus Returns is coming to the Nintendo 3DS. It’s a remake of the Game Boy title Metroid II: Samus Returns and its coming September 15th. Also announced for release was a special physical edition of the game, which features the game itself and the soundtrack on CD, and two new Amiibo; the first is a Metroid itself, featuring real squishing action, and the second is of Samus in the pose featured on the box art of the original Metroid II.

The game is being co-developed with MercurySteam.
