Kimishima talks mobile plans, gives more NX details

A recent interview with Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima, we not only learned of the company’s plans for entering the movie sphere, but a bit more info was given on their mobile strategy. Kimishima has lofty hopes for Nintendo’s introduction to the smartphone market, with the ultimate hope that any money made there will compensate for the lack of Wii U revenue.

He also elaborated on the recent news of the Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing installments for mobile, stating that the goal is to truly adapt the games to the platform, instead of just copying the original games. And don’t worry, Nintendo are also not taking DLC lightly, wanting to find a good middle ground. There’s also the possibility of the mobile games interacting with the 3DS.

Mobile wasn’t the only thing Kimishima talked about, with a few more details on the NX given as well. The reason we’re not going to be playing the new platform for the holiday season, is mostly an attempt to make sure their software lineup is good and ready, with the plan to lead into the next holiday season with a very strong lineup. And while the age of Wii U is more or less over, Nintendo don’t see the NX as a replacement, for either the Wii U or 3DS, stating it’s simply a new way of playing.

The 3DS is also expected to keep a strong hold on the market this year, with the promise of new Pokemon games. Kimishima also touched on pricing, with the new platform most likely not being sold at a loss, even with the expectation of developers putting their all into the NX.
