Japanese arcades under attack from Wii

by Daniel VuckovicFebruary 6, 2008

Japan, the last haven for arcades, is under attack from the Wii. Well that is according to Namco Bandai, who plans to close between 50 and 60 arcades over the country. “”A lot of the types of games that people played at an arcade can now be done at home,”” company spokesman Yuji Machida said. While Video games are nothing new, the interactivity that the Wii brings is causing kids to save up for more hardware and software for the Wii, instead of pouring their money into arcade machines. Arcades are a lot less common in the rest of the world, perhaps Japan is just playing catch-up. Source: Reuters
