Iwata expresses interest to push local multiplayer in overseas markets

Even being the runaway success that the Nintedo 3DS range is, there’s still room for improvement, according to Nintendo head honcho Satoru Iwata. Specifically, there’s potential to push the 3DS console, as well as evolving current 3DS franchises using local multiplayer, and Iwata revealed plans to focus on exactly this.

The Monster Hunter and Pokémon franchises, as well as the currently Japan-only Yokai Watch franchise, have flourished with the focus on local multiplayer, and more could come. Perhaps we could see more Download Play multiplayer games, to entice people to jump in with their own copy of the game? Only time will tell.
