International release of Monster Hunter 3D seems unlikely

Claims that Capcom are not satisfied with sales for the Wii original.

Those of you holding out for a local release of Monster Hunter 3G for Nintendo 3DS may be out of luck.

David Gibson (Head of Software & Services for Macquarie Capital Securities Japan) has tweeted the following, that “capcom keep saying its unlikely as [an] audience [is] not there based on the wii game”. If this is true, an international release of the game is very unlikely.

The game itself has been selling very well in Japan, exceeding sales of 1.5 million units. It’s possible that Capcom are ‘playing it safe’ and are just trying to generate more hype for Monster Hunter 4. That being said, Gibson may be completely wrong, and perhaps his quote is only relevant to certain employees of Capcom, and not the company as a whole.

Do you think losing out on this particular title is a big loss? Are you concerned about the future of the franchise outside of Japan?
