Gamers need games, not Wii Sports Clones says Dean Scott

by Daniel ParkerSeptember 7, 2008

Overlord producer Dean Scott has expressed his opinion of all the shovelware on the Wii. “”There are a lot of companies doing the same thing at the moment,”” he says. “”Everyones in a hurry to make the next Wii Sports, because Wii Sports was so popular.”” Scott believes that is all well and good as a short term solution, but won’t do them any favours in the long run. He claims there is a “”Wii gold rush”” right now, and notes that an excess of shovelware titles will only hurt the non-gamers getting involved. More inside “”Let’s say someone buys a Nintendo Wii; they buy Wii Fit, and go ‘this is fine, lets buy this sports game,’ and then go ‘this is sh!t, Wiis sh!t’ and the Wii’s back in the cupboard. That persons not going to play videogames anymore.”” Explains Scott. “”There has to be games for gamers, there has to be games that make sense as games, and not just as a means to make money quickly.”” This kind of perspective can only be fantastic news for the Wii version of Overlord and everyone who is sick to death of the lack of hardcore titles for the Wii.

Overlord: Dark Legend is not due out until 2009.
