It had to happen sooner or later. GAME Australia is looking for a buyer says reports coming out of the Australian Financial Review. The UK GAME Group has been in some trouble for some time and went into administration yesterday, half of its 609 stores were closed and more than 2000 employees were let go.

GAME Australia has been downplaying the drama for a while saying it hasn’t affected them and really, it hasn’t. It’s still getting all the latest games, something the UK division hadn’t been getting since late last year. Now Australian GAME manager Paul Yardley has said they’ll be working with the management team of the administrators to make sure someone good buys them. GAME closed 25 stores last year to cut costs and doesn’t rule out that it might happen again.

GAME Australia is operating as normal for now, however we’ll keep an eye on it because you’ll have to move quick if you have any credit with the stores and they do end up closing.
