FIFA 19 arrives on Switch with online friendlies, Champions Edition

The only Nintendo Switch nod during EA’s E3 event last night was the reconfirmation that FIFA 19 is on the way.

The biggest news is that the game will now feature the UEFA Champions League. Previously the UEFA license had been with Konami’s PES series.

Again because it’s not the Frostbite Engine version of the game Switch owners will miss out on the ‘story’ mode, but this year we’ll finally be able to get play online with friends directly. FIFA 18 would allow you to play online, but if you wanted a quick friendly with a mate it just wasn’t possible.

For the first time, the Switch will also get the Champions Edition of the game which allows you to play it early, we’re not sure if we’ll actually get this in Australia but once EA sends through the details we’ll let you know.

The “Ronaldo Edition” (being the advanced release edition) of FIFA 18 on other platforms was released in Australia, so I see no reason why the equivalent FIFA 19 edition wouldn’t also be released here. I’m surprised it’s still available in Australia (and is currently the same price as the standard edition at EB no less), as I would assume that these editions would have been produced in far smaller quantities.
