Famitsu reveals Top 100 selling games in Japan for 2009

Wii and DS releases make up the majority of the list, but which of the big franchises will take the top spot?

Thanks to the guys at NeoGAF, we now have a nice list of Famitsu’s sales lists for 2009. Starting with software, it’s not surprising to see Dragon Quest IX taking the top spot with over four million sales. All the big franchises make showings in the top ten, however, including Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Final Tantasy XIII and two titles each for the ’Wii’ range and Monster Hunter. Overall, 61 of the 100 were games from the DS and Wii.

On the hardware front, the Wii didn’t end up much ahead of the PS3 for the year, with 1,975,178 sales compared to the Sony system’s 1,727,041. The DS easily takes top spot, shifting 4,025,313 units. The next closest is the PSP’s 2,307,971. Big surprise, the Japanese still don’t like the Xbox 360, which managed only 331,706 sales for the year.
