E306: Wii Controller To Use Batteries

by DamienMay 10, 2006

During an interview with website The Wiire, Lance Barr, a Nintendo industrial designer mentioned at this stage the Wii controller will use batteries to power operation. It is unknown if alkaline or lithium ion batteries will be the prefered battery. “”It’s cheaper for us to provide AA batteries,”” said Barr. When asked if battery life will be similar to that of the Wavebird, Barr said “”Absolutely not”” as the Wii transfers more data thus drains the batteries quicker.

It must be stressed that batteries is the prefered powering method at this stage. Nintendo may opt to include or release some sort of plug and play option at a later date.
