E3 2019: Luigi’s Mansion 3 gets Gooigi co-op, still out in 2019

Luigi’s Mansion 3 got a deep dive during Nintendo’s E3 Direct, seeing as we’d only seen a brief trailer before it was great to see more of what the game will offer.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 takes places in a hotel, Luigi checks in with Mario, Peach, two Toads, and a ghost pup – oh no they’re all missing now. Each of the hotel’s floors has a distinct theme, it’s a pretty big hotel!

Taking the Poltergust G-00, Luigi has to explore the hotel to find them. The new vacuum has an umber of new features, it can slam ghosts into the ground or shoot a plunger for a bit of range. Luigi can even shoot air down and jump over obstacles.

Ghosts are smarter this time around, they can gang up to counter all these new abilities.

Gooigi returns again for co-operative play. The 3DS port of Luigi’s Mansion had this mode and it’s been expanded here in the Switch version. Luigi and Gooigi will both play on the same screen and each has different abilities. Gooigi can walk on spikes and pass through bars, but he’s not good with water so you’ll need Luigi for that.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 had a multiplayer mode called Scarescraper and it’s back again for Luigi’s Mansion 3 with local and online.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 still has a release date of 2019, but that’s as close as we’re going to get for now.

We’re going hands-on with Luigi’s Mansion 3 this week, we’ll let you know how it plays. Stay tuned!
